US: Girlfriend's post on Facebook lands man in jail

Washington: A 25-year-old man landed in jail for stealing $ 3,200 diamond ring, after his girlfriend posted a picture of the 'engagement' ring on social networking site Facebook.

Police in Burlington arrested Ryan Jarvis after he proposed to his fiancee, allegedly with a stolen diamond ring.

The arrest was made after the cops received a tip off following a Facebook posting by Jarvis' girlfriend.

WCAX-TV reported that the man was charged with stealing a white gold solitaire ring worth $ 3,200 which he took off with from a jewellery store in the Burlington Town Center Mall, where he was looking at jewellery for about an hour.

Officer Jesse Stewart said that Jarvis proposed to his girlfriend, who shared the news on Facebook, included a picture of the ring.

This prompted some of her friends call police, as they realised it matched the stolen ring they'd seen on the news.

Burlington Police say Jarvis' girlfriend was wearing the stolen ring when they came question the couple.

However, they don't think the woman was aware that the ring was stolen and thus don't plan to file criminal charges against her.

They claim Jarvis who faces felony charges, has confessed and is was unclear whether he has a lawyer.

Ind vs Aus: Australia fight back after wrath of Zaheer Khan

Defiant lower-order Australian batsmen negated Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan's incisive blows in the final session, as both teams shared the honours on a fluctuating opening day of the first cricket Test on Monday.

Australian captain Michael Clarke must have been left with mixed feelings on his decision to bat first after his side finished the first day on 277 for 6 at the MCG.

While Indian seamers bowled well in patches, it was a 113-run third wicket partnership between under-fire former skipper Ricky Ponting (62) and debutant opener Ed Cowan (68) and an unbroken 63-run seventh wicket stand between Brad Haddin (21 batting) and Peter Siddle (34 batting) that helped the home team reach a respectable total.

Talented Umesh Yadav (3 for 96) bowled fast touching 150.1 kmph on speedometer as he snared the wickets of David Warner (37), Shaun Marsh (0) and Ponting, but was also guilty of sending down too many boundary balls.

The wily Zaheer Khan (2 for 49 in 23 overs) also bowled well within himself as he sent back Clarke (31) and Michael Hussey (0) off successive deliveries.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin should be given a lot of credit for removing the stodgy Cowan who played 177 balls hitting seven fours in the process.

That Umpire Decision Review System is not being used has hurt both the teams. Australia was at the receiving end of two dubious decisions as both Michael Hussey (0) and Cowan didn't seem to have got any edge but were adjudged caught behind.

India too must have felt a twinge of regret when Brad Haddin on 19, wasn't given out leg before off a Zaheer delivery even though he looked absolutely plumb at the fag end of the day's play.

India got crucial breakthroughs against the run of play after Australia had raced to 46 for no loss in the morning session and later, in the final session, were cruising along at 205 for 3.

After opener David Warner (37) provided a blazing start, Yadav dismissed both Warner and No 3 batsman Shaun Marsh (0) in a space of seven deliveries to reduce Australia to 47 for two.

Later, in the final session, Australian slumped from 205/3 to 205/5 after Zaheer saw the back of captain Clarke (31) and Michael Hussey (0) off successive deliveries.

Yadav struck the first blow when his well-directed bouncer saw the stockily built Aussie opener go for a mistimed hook shot. The resultant catch was easily taken by Dhoni.

Yadav then angled a fullish delivery to Marsh who went for a drive only to be caught by Virat Kohli stationed at gully.

In between these two strikes and the mini collapse suffered in the final session, Australia's batting had prospered and India had begun to look ragged in the field.

Cowan and Ponting added 113 runs, batting in contrasting yet effective style.

Cowan made only 14 in nearly two hours of morning session but Ponting had already raced to 15 by lunch, even though he had a narrow escape when a Yadav bouncer hit him on the helmet and nearly rolled on to his stumps.

Resuming at lunch-time score of 68 for 2, Ponting went into an overdrive on resumption and reeled off a series of boundaries to trigger a similar response from Cowan.

Ponting helped off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin towards leg side in the first over to set the tone of the session and then twice picked Yadav for a pulled and flicked boundary to move into 30s.

Cowan himself was a changed batsman as he took a great helping off the bowling of Yadav. The young bowler was first driven through the covers; then pulled to fence before twice being cut over and between the slip cordon for fours.

Both batsmen were now in their 40s but Ponting was the first one to reach his half-century when he went down on his knees to lift Ashwin into the midwicket region.

A little later it was Cowan's turn to raise his bat in celebration when he pushed Ishant on to the off-side for a single. The century-stand between the two for the third wicket came off 123 balls in 162 minutes.

India fought back through steady spells, full of intent, from Ashwin and Ishant Sharma and the reward of this pressure was reaped by Yadav.

Brought on to bowl just before the tea break, Yadav bowled an out-swinger at Ponting which he could only edge it to third slip VVS Laxman. The former Australian captain was in imperious form but for a few moments of uncertainty and made 62 runs from 94 balls in 148 minutes with seven fours.

There was no hint of disaster as Australia serenely progressed to 170 for 3 by tea which Cowan still going strong on 62 and Clarke looking to take roots on 7.

Clarke pressed on for a while in the final session and had reached 31 from 68 balls when he went to play Zaheer Khan on the backfoot and dragged the ball on to his stumps.

The left-arm paceman made it a twin strike in two balls when Michael Hussey (0) leapt off the ground in trying to evade a bouncer and a vociferous appeal led to umpire Marais Erasmus raising his finger in affirmation.

The television replays showed the umpire on the wrong as the ball hadn't brushed any part of the bat on way to the wicketkeeper. A stunned Hussey, fighting for his career, was distraught on being given the marching order. He cut a forlorn figure as he dragged himself out of the field.

India's spell of happiness was complete when the most obdurate of all batsmen was accounted for by Ashwin. Cowan had been calm and composed during his stay at the crease, but looked rattled by the quick losses at the other end.

He tried to cut an Ashwin delivery which wasn't short enough and ended up edging it for wicketkeeper Dhoni.

Cowan batted for 294 minutes and faced 177 balls for his 68 runs, inclusive of seven fours. Australia were now 214 for six.

As Haddin and Siddle stand grew roots, Indians opted for the second new ball as soon as it was due after 80 overs. The visitors would be happy on the count of its four bowlers who shared the entire day's load between themselves.

Zaheer Khan was largely pedestrian for the first two sessions before reverse swing helped his cause in the final stretch of play.

Teams:

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Capt.), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav.

Australia: Michael Clarke (Capt.), David Warner, Ed Cowan, Shaun Marsh, Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey, Brad Haddin, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus, Nathan Lyon, James Pattinson.

Police bust sex racket, TV actress among the rescued

A notorious online sex racketeer and two accomplices were arrested from Kottaipalayam on the outskirts of the city byKovilpalayam police on Saturday evening. Five women including a television actress were rescued by police.

Police said the kingpin of the racket, Kovai Balaji alias N Balaji, 37, was involved in a series of such cases in Mettupalayam and Chennai. Balaji, a native of Dindigul district, was reportedly running an online sex racket and was posting his mobile number on the internet for clients, police said.

Recently, he took a house on rent at V J Nagar at Kottaipalayam near Kovilpalayam in Coimbatore district. He introduced himself as a textile merchant to neighbours, who grew suspicious of his activities and alerted Kovilpalayam police. A police team led by Inspector S Subburathinam raided the house on Saturday and arrested Balaji and his accomplices B Krishnamoorthy, 47, from Adambakkam in Chennai and A Lakshmi, 47, from Andhra Pradesh. The arrested have been sent to Coimbatore central prison. Five women rescued from the house have been sent to government women protection home at Sanganoor in the city.

One of the victims was a Tamil TV serial actor while the other was a group dancer in the film industry. According to police, Balaji had links with flesh trade rackets operating in Tamil Nadu and Kerala and other states also. He was booked on similar charges last year and has a number of cases pending against his name in Chennai. He was charged twice under the Goondas Act in Chennai.

"We had planned to conduct surprise raids at various places in the district. Our police team was watching the sex racket's activities," said E S Uma, superintendent of police, Coimbatore district.

The police claimed that Balaji used to operate through the internet and have uploaded his multiple mobile numbers on several porn and escort services websites.

In April this year, police had reported a clash involving Balaji and a notorious gangster, M Kabali alias Ilamurugan at the Coimbatore central prison. Kabali had asked Balaji for Rs 10,000 cash while they were waiting in the queue for breakfast in the prison complex. When Balaji sought two days time, Kabali reportedly hit him. Balaji was then in jail after the anti-vice squad of Coimbatore city police arrested him. In June, city police busted an online sex racket which was led by Balaji's wife, Santhiya, who managed to evade arrest. She had taken over the reins of the racket when Balaji was arrested. Santhiya is still absconding though Balaji came out prison soon after.

Indian engineering student returning from US held for nude pictures

Sawapnil Baliram Patole, a 25-year-old student from US who returned to India for Christmas vacations, was arrested on Saturday by Mumbai police as his name figured in the Mumbai police lookout notice.

The immigration cell at the airport informed the
Mumbai Cyber Investigating Cell, which arrested Patole in a two-year-old case where he was wanted for outraging the modesty of a woman, threatening and extortion. Patole is a student of mechanical engineering in the US.

The case dates back to 2009 when the victim hailing from Pune filed a complaint that Patole had clicked her
nude pictures and was forcing her to have sex with him and demanding money.

2011: Mahesh Babu ruled the game in tollywood

Actor of the Year: Mahesh Babu

The most bankable star has set the cash registers ringing so fast and furious as to make even the slumbering taxman sit up and take notice. His latest release, 'Dookudu', grossed Rs 25 crore in the first week and Rs 100 crore in 50 days — a first for a Telugu film. It silenced his self-styled competitors. On the flip side, the taxman was only too happy to pay a visit to the star and his producers.

Villain Of the Year: Jackie Shroff

Though a number of Bollywood actors—from Sonu Sood to Jackie Shroff—have come down to take on the heroes of the south, the element of surprise and novelty besides of course intensity in the portrayal of a vengeful don in Panjaa have made Jackie the villain of Tollywood.

Actress of the Year: Samantha Ruth Prabhu

This girl from Chennai stormed Tollywood with her debut Ye Maya Chesave last year and hasn't looked back since. Her latest film, Dookudu, has smashed all records making Samantha the new 'hit' girl, and giving Anushka Shetty, the reigning No. 1, a run for her money.

Director of the Year: Srinu Vaitla

The man who prefers to maintain a low profile is now one of the most sought-after directors. Though one reason cited for Dookudu's smashing success is the failure of others, Vaitla is perceived as a director who knows the comic pulse of the people like no other. Vaitla is now booked for the next three years.

Song of the Year: Panjaa

Pawan Kalyan's 'Panjaa' may have got mixed reviews but its title song, Panjaa, is ruling the airwaves. Composed by Ilayaraja's son Yuvan Shankar Raja, it has not only elevated the film but has also got youngsters grooving to its racy tune.

Hit of the Year: Dookudu

Despite a thin story line and long-winding sentimental plot, garnered 100 crore in 50 days, raising the bar for a Telugu film. Directed by Srinu Vaitla, the film's USP was undoubtedly Mahesh and his comic timing.

trade of this Week

1) Rajanna ( Week 1 )

Rajanna is doing an okay job  in Nizam. But Andhra & Ceeded being poor makes it a poor start for the film on the whole.

Verdict : Poor Start

2) Don 2 ( week 1 )

Don2 has taken a good opening in Hyderabad city.

Verdict : Good Start

3) Journey ( Week 2 )

Journey has  surprised every one in Trade by posting good numbers in Major Centres which is enough to recover its low  price.

Verdict: Hit.

4) Sri Ramarajyam  ( Week 6 )

SRR’s situation is rather strange. The film which has more than satisfied  its audience,  looks like failed to match up with good  numbers. More about its economics in a special later.

Verdict : Commercial Flop.

5) Panjaa ( Week 3 )

Business is almost closed for 2weeks.

Verdict: Disaster.

Review: Nokia Lumia 800 a challenger, but not a killer

Windows Phone is the window that Nokia is staring earnestly at for its revival. The company that once dominated the mobile phone market had rapidly lost its market share to iPhone and Android phones at the higher end of the market and upstart players in the budget market. While the Finnish mobile phone giant is still the largest mobile phone manufacturer by numbers, its share in the smartphone market has taken a beating.

For a while Nokia worked on its Meego OS only to abandon it. The Nokia N9 will remain as the only MeeGo device. With its recently launched Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 Windows Mango phones, Nokia hopes to bring back its glory days. But can it?

I took a close look at the Nokia Lumia 800 to find some answers.

Hardware and styling

The phone comes packed in a small gift like box which includes the standard contents - a handset, charger, USB cable, an earphone, and paper manuals.

One look and you know that Nokia didn't bother too much in investing on a new design. The Lumia 800 looks like a N9 clone, albeit with a different soul.

The phone is sleek and looks handsome. My review unit was a matt black. The left side is completely expanse, while the right side is loaded and includes lock/power on and off button, volume rocker and a capture button.

On the bottom is the cleanly drilled speaker. Yes, only one. The top includes a 3.5mm socket, a flap for the micro USB port and a SIM card tray that accepts only micro SIM card (this means that you may need to ask your mobile service provider for a new SIM as your existing one may be incompatible, or if you are more adventurous you can chop your SIM to convert it into a micro SIM).

The micro USB flap opens when it is pressed from the one side and the SIM card tray can be taken out only when the flap for the micro USB port is open. It might sound a bit troublesome, but given that I don't swap SIM cards every day, this doesn't seem to be too much of a hassle. However, the flap that covers the micro USB part looks delicate and chances are you may accidentally break it.

For a phone of its segment, I was disappointed by the absence of a front-facing camera. Also, as I love notification LEDs, not finding one on the Lumia 800 was a minor disappointment.

On the back is an 8 megapixel auto focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash. Weighing 142g, the phone is slightly heavier than Nokia N9 that weighs 135g. But in terms of thickness, both are equally thick at 12.1mm. However the HTC Radar, which also runs the same OS, is both lighter and thinner than the Nokia Lumia 800.

Something else that was annoying was that when I plugged in a totally drained out Lumia 800, it just didn't display whether it was charging itself or not. Users shouldn't be left guessing.

Display

The phone has a curved 3.7-inch AMOLED ClearBlack glass touchscreen display with 800x480 pixels resolution. The ClearBlack display does reduce reflections on the screen and improves visual image quality, especially outdoors. The blacks are fully black and it also becomes difficult to distinguish where the display ends.

And the curved screen gives a pleasant touch experience. Swiping left to right is actually a breeze on the curved screen. The phone also has a Gorilla glass front that helps protect the display from scratches, drops, and bumps, thereby giving a sense of security.

Though the phone has borrowed its looks from Nokia N9, but the screen size varies. A 3.9-inch panel on the Nokia N9 has been reduced to 3.7-inch on the Lumia 800 to accommodate Windows Phone keys.

Even though the phone's display is sharp, crisp and detailed, but it does not match the display quality of Samsung's HD Super AMOLED and Apple's Retina display. But the lack of reflection is an advantage for the Lumia 800.

Operating system and UI

The N9 is the one and only MeeGo phone, but the Nokia Lumia 800 is one of the many Windows phones in the market. Nokia is banking on its hardware differentiation to keep itself ahead of other Windows Phone competitors.

The phone offers an engaging and intuitive user interface and the touch is quite responsive. The interface is quite appealing, yet simple. In the first look, the interface attracts you a lot, but over a period of time, you might start finding it a bit boring. I have experienced the HTC radar, Samsung Omnia W and Nokia Lumia 800, and now it no longer attracts me in the way it did initially. But a first timer will be impressed.

My colleague Soumyadip Choudhury had posted a review of the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS and I don't think I have to repeat the same things over in my own words. Excerpts:

"The first thing that strikes the user on a Mango device is the beauty of its Metro user interface. Tiles are indeed an attractive and a welcome break from the icon-based screens. It is also fast and responsive. There are hardly and lags and stutters.

The Live Tiles is touted as one of the most unique features of the OS. The tiles on the home screen have a life of their own and are not merely shortcuts to launch apps. A wonderful concept, but unfortunately, I am yet to see an app use it in a way that could make me go "Wow!". I still like the notification bar on Android (It also inspired Apple enough to include a clone in the iOS 5). The notification bar catches my attention in a way the Live Tiles hasn't yet been able to, even though they are prettier. The manner in which some developers are using Live Tiles end up confusing the user, particularly when the branding disappears to only display updated content.

Windows Phone 7.5 integrates your Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin accounts to give a more social experience at one place, but to experience the richness of the social networks you cannot rely only on the native OS integration. This means that you need to install individual apps. Defeats a part of the purpose, doesn't it?

The interface is intuitive and easy to use. Not too many layers to delve into. It also should not take most users very long to get used to. This simplicity can be a big advantage, especially in attracting first time smartphone users.

Windows Phone Mango comes packed with all the features that we expect a smartphone to have and matches the competition on performance. It also allows easy Wi-Fi tethering that allows you to share your Internet connection with other devices.

The Mango comes with Internet Explorer 9 as the default browser. One issue there is that many websites do not recognise IE9 on Mango as a mobile browser and serve the desktop version instead. No fault of Microsoft's though.

Something that I found amusing was the Mango needs a phone restart when I tried to make certain changes. A Windows desktop OS hangover maybe? Also was a wee bit irked when the phone asked for a Windows Live ID. I had to scratch my head a few times to recall the credentials.

If Mango (and its successors) turn out to be the success that Microsoft (and Nokia) hope it to be, it may as a trickle down effect boost some of Microsoft's sagging userbase on its online utilities.

The biggest drawback is the availability of apps on the Marketplace and also the chaos that the place seems to be in. With so many unofficial apps, especially news apps, it becomes very difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. Maybe not Apple-strict but Microsoft should ensure some basic gatekeeping and housekeeping to keep the place in order. It will benefit them a lot in the long run. I couldn't find a simple screen-capture app in there and had to install one manually.

Also am not sure if developers are taking the platform very seriously. For example, the Kindle app for Windows Mobile lacks many features that are available on the Kindle Android app. I am not quite sure whom to place the blame on.

Microsoft has made it difficult (and expensive) to install non-Marketplace apps, even though they have given ChevronWP7's Windows Phone unlocking tool their blessings it still isn't as easy as on Android.

For me, Mango turned out to be sweeter than expected. I too was initially surprised at Nokia's plans to bet its smartphone future on Microsoft software. But now on experiencing the Mango experience it seems to be the best bet both for Nokia as well as us users. It brings more credible competition to the market and will therefore force the existing market leaders to be more innovative. We love being spoilt for choices.

There is no doubting that Windows Phone Mango is pleasing to the eyes, but as in human relationships, looks matter only initially. Soon the other core qualities take over. In markets such as India the Mango isn't competing with the iOS but with Android. The feature-rich Ice Cream Sandwich may make it a little difficult for Microsoft and Nokia to make a dent in the emerging Android market in India. But I am sure that Microsoft will not let go of this opportunity and will soon strike back with Windows 8, the operating system may converge Microsoft's PC, phones, and tablet operating systems."

Besides when the phone was synced with Zune, I couldn't access media files and neither could visit the Marketplace (even after the synchronisation was complete). It was a turn-off for me. To browse media on the phone, I had to close the Zune software on the PC.

The Nokia Lumia 800 (along with other Windows Phone devices), supports only select few Bluetooth user profiles. The Lumia 800 does not support file transfers over Bluetooth. I tried to pair the device with other devices via Bluetooth, but all in vain.

With the Nokia Lumia 800, the company brings some specific apps like Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps on the device. The Nokia Drive app converts your handset into a satellite navigation system and provides navigation services including voice assisted turn-by-turn instructions.

Camera

The phone is engineered with an 8 megapixel camera with f/2.2 Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, autofocus, dual-LED flash and 3x digital zoom. It is the same lens that the company had used in its Nokia N8 phone, whose camera is still considered as the best camera on a mobile phone in the market.

Undoubtedly, the Lumia 800's camera produces excellent and sharp images, but in low-light conditions, the camera fails to impress. The Lumia 800's macro mode also didn't deliver satisfactory results. Also the phone does not support zooming while recording video.

A user can long press the side-mounted camera button to get into the camera app. As the user taps anywhere on the screen, the camera gets ready to focus and auto-expose the image based on the information in a particular scene.

It offers various options to customise images including scenes (backlight, beach, candlelight, and so on), exposure value, effects (normal, black and white, negative and sepia), flicker reduction and more.

In video mode, the camera performed quite well and shot crisp 720 HD video at 30 frames per second, but in low light conditions, it did not live up to my expectations. Also the phone cannot record videos at 1080p. This is a Catch-22 situation for Nokia. Single core-phones cannot shoot 1080p video and the Windows Phone OS does not support dual-core processors.

While the absence of 1080p recording is not the death knell, it just give competitors an advantage.

It seems that an 8 megapixel camera is becoming a standard for higher-end phones. We compared the results from a Samsung Galaxy Note, Apple iPhone 4S with that of the Nokia Lumia 800 and found that the Lumia 800's camera is far from the best in town.

Miscellaneous

Powered by a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 512 MB RAM, the phone is fast and multitasking a breeze.

The phone has a 1450 mAh battery that offers a fair battery backup. With normal use, the phone's battery can survive more than a day. But heavy usage will force you to charge it more often.

Keeping in tune with Nokia has stood for over the years, the phone delivers good reception and call quality. The built-in speaker is quite audible but not top-notch in noisy areas.

The phone offers 16GB of memory and there is no slot for memory card.

Verdict

After long, Nokia has shown a flicker of competitiveness and it is also the best Windows Phone device in the market now. But it is also equally true that it is not the best smartphone around. The phone and the OS are both good, but it isn't a killer.

It is priced at Rs 29,999, which seemed to be a bit expensive to me, given that it is a phone-eat-phone world out there.

Pros

Non-reflective display

Sleek and slim design

Appealing, Intuitive and responsive OS

Cons

No front camera

Sightly expensive

Unsatisfactory camera performance in low light conditions

Lack of quality apps on Windows Marketplace

Bluetooth connectivity issues

Rating: 3/5

Nayan asked to decline role

After starlets like Anushka, Charmee and Priyamani, it seemed that it was now Nayantara’s turn to do a female-centric film with the semi-periodic saga Rampachodavaram, but things didn’t work out in the last minute. Though she had claimed that the devotional film Sri Rama Rajyam would be her swan song, Nayantara was all geared up to do the power-packed role. The problem was fiancé Prabhu Deva’s deadline.

Nayantara had reportedly held parleys with producer Konda Krishnam Raju and even allotted 60 days from November 1 to December 31 as she was totally hooked by the well-defined role and the hefty pay packet of ` 1.3 crore. “In fact, she personally clarified a few doubts in the script and was preparing to portray the multifaceted role to showcase her acting repertoire. Unfortunately, the producer was unable to start shooting and requested for fresh dates in January and February but Prabhu asked her to decline,” says a source in the crew. Prabhu Deva has apparently chalked out a roadmap for their marriage in January 2012 as advised by an astrologer and insisted that she wind up her tinsel town work by December 31, 2011.

Hangover? Coffee is the best bet

The best cure for a hangover is a cup of coffeeand an aspirin.

Scientists have confirmed that the traditional morning-after boost is better than modern alternatives like organic honey, or a raw egg, reports express .

The caffeine in coffee and anti-inflammatory ingredients of
aspirin combat the alcohol, saidPhiladelphia researcher Michael Oshinsky.

He discovered this by inducing headaches in rats using small amounts of ethanol or pure alcohol.

The animals then had doses of caffeine and anti-inflammatories which cleared the pain.

"None of the commonly cited cures for hangovers could have caused this response," said Oshinsky.

B'wood vs South: Who's better, Hrithik or Suriya?

Film industries of North and South India are quite different from each other. Everything from cinematography to editing has distinguished set of aesthetical values. While the South Indian fans don't care much about the weight of their actors, typical North Indian audiences can't tolerate even one inch of extra flab on the waistline.

The choice of heroines also describes the diversities in the mindsets. The tradition has started to change lately but so far the South Indian film industry has given more chances to fair looking voluptuous heroines while the Hindi film industry has focussed more on trendy and slim actresses.

However there are actors who can easily do transitions from one industry to the other due to the similarities between them and some other prominent actor of another industry. Hrithik Roshan and Suriya is one such pair who can replace each other in their domains.

With an age difference of five months, Hrithik Roshan and Saravanan Sivakumar aka Suriya have a lot in common. Apart from six pack abs, both of them can boast of good acting skills.

Both the actors are born to screen heroes and are happily married. Not only this, Hrithik and Suriya are seen as the next superstars of their respective industries.

Suriya came to films in 1997 with 'Nerrukku Ner' but his career's turning point arrived with 'Nandha'. On the other hand, Hrithik had a little late entry as 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai' released in 2000.

Although Hrithik had an impressive debut at the box office, the road to success became difficult for him after the first film. It took him eight films to again receive a warm welcome at the ticket window with 'Koi Mil Gaya'.

Suriya did not have to struggle much as his work in films such as 'Friends' and 'Unnai Ninaithu' got appreciated. The success of 'Kakha Kakha' in 2003 made him one of the actors to watch out for in future.

This was more or less the same time when film critics were having a glimpse of Hrithik Roshan's latent talent in films like 'Lakshya' and 'Krrish'.

Suriya stamped his authority in emotional roles with 'Perazhagan' where he had played two challenging roles of an aggressive boxer and a physically challenged man.

He emerged as a capable student leader in Mani Rathnam's 'Aayutha Ezhuthu'. Later he excelled more in commercially successful films like 'Ghazini' and 'Aaru'.

'Vaaranam Aayiram', 'Singam', and 'Rakta Charitra' established Suriya as a bankable actor who was developing his own niche audience base despite the presence of stalwarts in Tamil films.

'Ayan' and recently released '7Aum Arivu' have also met with huge success and currently Suriya has reached to a position where he can challenge the existing champions of the number game.

Hrithik has not reached to a position like Suriya but slowly and steadily, he is inching towards the Numero Uno spot. It's true that Hrithik has not given enough hits to claim a position on the podium which is dominated by Khans but his mannerism and body language reflect the kind of hard work he puts into his characters.

The audiences have seen Roshan evolving as a performer in 'Jodhaa Akbar' and 'Guzaarish', and eagerly awaited 'Agneepath' is expected to get him closer to the superstars of Hindi films.

The present seems more secured for Suriya than Hrithik but the future looks brighter for both the talented actors.

Cong attacks Hazare again; Anna India's agent, says Kejriwal

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Sunday slammed Anna Hazare once again for hiding his alleged association with the RSS. The Congress general secretary has also said that a report published in a Hindi daily on Sunday about Anna Hazare's links with RSS leader Nanaji Deshmukh has once

again proved that the anti-graft activist is hiding his association with the Sangh Parivar.

Digvijaya Singh tweeted: "Anna Hazare worked as secretary with RSS leader Nanaji Deshmukh and trained in 1983 in Gonda. See Nai Duniya front page today."

"And he denied any association with RSS! Now whom do we believe - facts with picture and the claim of RSS or Anna? I am again proved right," Singh tweeted also.

At the same time, Union minister for steel Beni Prasad Verma has also criticised Anna Hazare by saying he is not a threat to the Congress. Verma even called him an absconding soldier.

"Anna Hazare is an absconding soldier since 1965 war between India and Pakistan. He only creates drama games in Delhi. Anna is RSS's agent," Verma said during an interview with CNN-IBN.

While reacting to the fresh allegations by Congress, Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal said, "Anna is an agent of our country, when they (Beni Prasad Verma) don’t have anything to say they say these things.

Kumar Vishwas also said, "It's an insult to the Armed forces. The army praised Anna. People are watching, they will react with anger in the polls."

Smoking Could Shorten Penis Size

Besides causing heart disease, stroke and lung cancers, smoking also affects male virility. Not only concerning erectile dysfunction or impotence, cigarettes are also able to shorten the size of the penis.

This finding is based on results of a study conducted by researchers from Boston University School of Medicine to 200 participants who are male smokers. From the results of the study, smokers had an average of 1 cm shortening of their penis.

“This is the largest finding ever of cigarettes associated with sensitivity of sex,” said Dr. Pedram Salimpour, one of the researchers, according to Guardian.

According to Dr. Salimpour, the negative effect of smoking on the penis is the same as the effect of smoking on heart. This is a blood vessel damage, which makes blood flow obstructed.

Basically this is the effect of elastin, the elastic connective tissue protein and allows tissues in the body to get back into shape after stretching or contraction. In this case, elastin affects the ability of penile erection.

Dr. Salimpour explained, elastin can stretch like rubber. This is what happens to the penis as a result of increased blood flow.

Smoking can damage body’s ability to do that, so it could affect the size of the penis and erectile ability. But researchers could not determine how many cigarettes can damage elastin and shorten the penis size.

“It is still worth further study, but apparently the dangers of smoking are more susceptible to the penis rather than the heart,” explained Dr. Salimpour.

According to him, this is because the existing blood vessels in the penis is much smaller than the veins in the heart. Existing blood vessels in the heart is 1.5 mm, while the penile blood vessels 1 mm smaller.

Not only for active smokers, Dr. Salimpour also explains that there is a possibility that the same thing could also happen in passive smokers. But it still needs further study.

“Although the tobacco industry insists, but the scientific facts are against them,” said Dr. Salimpour.
